PATCHOGUE, NY MARCH 16, 2009 In an effort to begin a new dialogue about race relations and diversity in the community, St. Josephs College has invited renowned author and news anchor, John Quiones to speak at its Long Island Campus in Patchogue on Monday, April 20, 2009. His talk, "A 20/20 Vision of Our Diverse Society will take place at 12:40 p.m. in the McGann Conference Center and then again at 7:30 p.m. in the DEcclesiis Auditorium, both located in OConnor Hall.
The recipient of seven Emmy Awards for his work at ABC, including What Would You Do?, Primetime Live, Burning Questions and 20/20, John Quiones has had the honor of winning the Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Awards Grand Prize for International Reporting and the World Hunger Media Award for the best reporting on hunger, poverty and self-reliance.
As the son of a laborer, John Quiones has risen from a humble upbringing to become a household name. During broadcasts and speaking engagements, he shares his courageous stories, and the tales of other heroic individuals he has met while traveling the globe. Quiones is also the author of Heroes Among Us: Ordinary People, Extraordinary Choices (Harper), in which he collects the narratives of heroes he has encountered and gives them the recognition they deserve.
