PATCHOGUE, NY October 28, 2009 St. Josephs College is pleased to announce that its own Sister Miriam Honora Corr 51, C.S.J., Ed.D., was recognized by the New York Association of Colleges for Teacher Education with the Charles C. Mackey, Jr. Excellence in Service Leadership Award at the NYACTE/NYSATE Conference in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. on October 22, 2009.
The Charles C. Mackey, Jr. Excellence in Service Leadership Award is given to an educator in New York State who has exemplified the highest standards in promoting service leadership, growth, development, diversity, responsibility and advocacy within teacher education through engagement, initiative and personal qualities that reflect relevant High Standards for Teacher Education Accountability as defined by the American Association of Colleges of Teacher Education.
"Whether the constituents are P-16 students, prospective teachers, teacher education faculty, research colleagues or professional agencies, Sister Miriam is that someone who invites risk of curiosity, wonder and spontaneous delight, said Sister Nancy Gilchriest, S.S.N.D., Ed.D., chairperson of the Department of Education at St. Josephs College.
Sister Miriam Honora Corr began her tenure at St. Josephs College in 1997. As the chairperson of the Department of Child Study, she played an integral role in promoting the Colleges child study programs throughout the New York metropolitan area. In May 2009, Sister Miriam stepped down from the position of chairperson. She currently serves as a part-time faculty member and is the co-director, and founder, of the infant/toddler early childhood special education masters program at the College.
