PATCHOGUE, NY FEBRUARY 3, 2009 St. Josephs College will send 15 volunteer students on a Collegiate Challenge trip to Georgetown, South Carolina during its spring break in early April to help build a shelter for a family in need of decent, affordable housing through its local chapter of Habitat for Humanity. On February 21 and 22 the group will hold a garage sale on the Colleges Long Island Campus from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in an effort to raise funds for the trip.
According to the organizations Web site, Collegiate Challenge is Habitat for Humanitys year-round alternative break program that provides opportunities for students from youth groups, high schools and colleges to spend a week of their school break building a house in partnership with a Habitat for Humanity affiliate in the United States.
"Its a really great feeling to know that youve helped someone less fortunate than yourself live in a better environment, said sophomore student Katie Williams, president of the St. Josephs College chapter of Habitat for Humanity. "Not only are we building homes, but were building memories that will last for a lifetime.
