Brooklyn, N.Y. – February 12, 2015In recognition of her leadership and dedication to the field of chemistry education, the New York Section of the American Chemical Society (ACS) awarded Dr. Jill Rehmann, interim executive dean and associate professor of physical sciences for SJC’s Brooklyn Campus, its “New York Section Outstanding Service” Award for 2014.

“It has always been a pleasure to work with my colleagues in the New York Section of the American Chemical Society to inspire students pursuing careers in chemistry, and to educate the public on how chemistry benefits them,” said Dr. Rehmann. “I’m flattered and honored to have been selected for this award.”

Dr. Rehmann has supported and contributed to the work of the New York Section of the ACS for nearly two decades. She served as chair of the New York Section in 2006 and led the section to a nationwide “Outstanding Performance by a Local Section” award. She also co-chaired the Student Affiliate Committee from 2001-2005 and co-chaired the Undergraduate Research Symposium during that time, securing generous donations from chemical companies and engaging many colleges and universities. For these efforts, she received the ACS Salute to Excellence Award in 2003.

For the past 20 years, Dr. Rehmann has spearheaded the College’s High School Poster Competition with the New York Section, providing hundreds of aspiring researchers the opportunity to showcase their knowledge and have it judged competitively against their peers across the five boroughs. A member of the College’s physical sciences faculty since 1996, she was promoted to interim executive dean in 2014.
