brooklyn, N.Y. DECEMBER 17, 2013 St. Josephs College is pleased to announce that Gary Shteyngart will discuss his latest work, Little Failure, for the first event of the 2014 Brooklyn Voices lecture series. This event will take place on Wednesday, January 8, at 7:30 p.m in the Tuohy Hall Auditorium of St. Josephs College at 245 Clinton Avenue in Brooklyn.
Little Failure is a serious exploration of what it means to be an immigrant, a grown-up, a son, an American and a work of autobiographical comic genius highly praised by fellow authors including Nathan Englander, Mary Karr and Zadie Smith. From his childhood in Leningrad, USSR and New York to his post-graduate years as a New Yorker with a psychoanalyst, a drinking problem and a desire to depict the world in words, this is the most personal work yet from one of his generation's most celebrated writers.
Tickets are $25, and include a copy of Little Failure. Tickets can either be purchased at the door or online at http://www.greenlightbookstore.com/event/gary-shteyngart. For more information regarding this event, please call Greenlight Bookstore at 718.246.0200.
Gary Shteyngart was born in Leningrad in 1972 and came to the United States seven years later. He is the author of the novels Super Sad True Love Story, which won the Bollinger Everyman Wodehouse Prize and was selected as one of the best books of the year by more than 40 news journals and magazines around the world; Absurdistan, which was chosen as one of the 10 best books of the year by The New York Times Book Review and Time magazine; and The Russian Debutantes Handbook, winner of the Stephen Crane Award for First Fiction and the National Jewish Book Award for Fiction. His work has appeared in The New Yorker, Esquire, GQ, Travel + Leisure, The New York Times Magazine, and many other publications and has been translated into 26 languages.
