Brooklyn Voices Presents Teju Cole

August 01, 2016 BK

Brooklyn, N.Y. – St. Joseph’s College (SJC), in partnership with Greenlight Bookstore, is pleased to announce that it will welcome novelist Teju Cole to discuss his latest work, Known and Strange Things, in conversation with Amitava Kumar on Tuesday, August 9 at 7:30 p.m. in SJC Brooklyn’s Tuohy Hall Auditorium.

“With his latest work, Cole turns his literary gaze and talents to a myriad of subjects,” said Barbara A. Garii, Ph.D., vice president of academic affairs, SJC Brooklyn. “I look forward to hearing his insights on both developing social trends and also the more esoteric items he examines in this collection of essays.”

Teju Cole has emerged as one of the most powerful and original voices in contemporary literature and commentary. His first book of essays, Known and Strange Things, offers more than fifty nonfiction pieces spanning politics, place, history, literature, photography and art. Cole’s experience as a Nigerian-American artist in spaces from Brooklyn to Brazil to Europe is an open window on the interconnected contemporary world, and his seemingly infinite artistic and cultural interests illuminate the familiar and spark new curiosities. Persuasive and provocative, erudite yet accessible, Known and Strange Things is a chance to see the world in surprising and affecting new frames.

Tickets for this event are $20 and include a copy of Known and Strange Things. There will be an opportunity to have to the book signed by Cole following the discussion. To purchase tickets, please go to tejucole.brownpapertickets.com.
