BROOKLYN, N.Y. – October 6, 2014 – St. Joseph’s College (SJC), in partnership with Greenlight Bookstore, is pleased to announce that former U.S. Poet Laureate Billy Collins will discuss his latest work, Aimless Love, as part of the fall Brooklyn Voices Lecture Series on Tuesday, October 28 at 7:30 p.m. in the Tuohy Hall Auditorium located on SJC’s Brooklyn Campus.
“We are all very excited to welcome a former Poet Laureate to SJC,” said Dr. Ted Hamm, director of the Brooklyn Voices Lecture Series. “His enthusiasm for poetry is contagious, and our students are eager to join Collins’ many devotees at the event.”
Billy Collins is one of the nation’s most celebrated poets. Last year, his first volume of new and selected poetry in 12 years was an instant New York Times bestseller, and Collins was called “America’s favorite poet” by the Wall Street Journal. Collins is the author of 10 collections of poetry, including Horoscopes for the Dead, Ballistics, The Trouble with Poetry, Nine Horses, Sailing Alone Around the Room, Questions About Angels, The Art of Drowning and Picnic, Lightning. He is also the editor of Poetry 180: A Turning Back to Poetry, 180 More: Extraordinary Poems for Every Day and Bright Wings: An Illustrated Anthology of Poems About Birds. A distinguished professor of English at Lehman College of the City University of New York, and a distinguished Fellow at the Winter Park Institute of Rollins College, he was Poet Laureate of the United States from 2001 to 2003 and Poet Laureate of New York State from 2004 to 2006.
