August 21, 2018 BK

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – August 21, 2018 – St. Joseph’s College (SJC) is pleased to announce that it  will once again partner with the Brooklyn YWCA and national sorority Sigma Gamma Rho to gather and distribute school supplies to young women enrolled in the YWLEAD program on Thursday, August 30 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Brooklyn YWCA.

“Our annual school supply drive enables St. Joseph's College to support our community and help dozens of local students start the upcoming school year in a position to succeed,” said SJC President Donald R. Boomgaarden, Ph.D. “It is our pleasure to join the Brooklyn YWCA and Gamma Sigma Rho to ensure that the young women in the YWLEAP Program have the materials they need to thrive in high school and work toward their dreams in college.”

“For the YWCA Brooklyn, this event reinforces the circle of empowerment that lies at the core of our mission,” said Martha Kamber, CEO of YWCA Brooklyn. “Our residents, many of whom were formerly homeless and possess very limited means, secured many of the supplies that we are giving out. Both they and our partners see the intrinsic value of the YWLEAD program in preparing the next generation of women for leadership and success. ”

At the distribution event, dinner will be served and entertainment will be provided by the YWCA. Families will have an opportunity to make backpacks for their children with the supplies generously provided by the residents of the YWCA and the partnering organizations.
