BROOKLYN, N.Y. – January 22, 2018 – St. Joseph’s College (SJC) is pleased to announce that the Alpha Epsilon Omega chapter of Kappa Delta Pi, the international teaching honor society, will welcome middle and high school students interested in becoming teachers to SJC Brooklyn’s Clinton Hill campus for its annual Celebration of Teaching event on Monday, January 28. The event will run from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
“St. Joseph's College has been long recognized for its excellence in teacher preparation, with thousands of its graduates having inspired countless young people in school districts across the New York City metropolitan area,” said Michael Hanophy, interim executive dean and professor of biology at SJC Brooklyn. “I can't think of a better way to inspire future teachers than seeing the enthusiasm of our students at this upcoming celebratory event.”
In this day-long event, students will take a tour of the Dillon Child Study Center, SJC Brooklyn’s on-campus laboratory preschool, and have the opportunity to discuss college and teaching with KDP members enrolled at SJC. Following lunch, there will be a panel of both child study and adolescent education teachers to answer any questions that the students may have. Immediately after the panel discussion, the visiting students will then sit in and observe SJC teacher preparation classes with SJC students.
“The mission of KDP, the international honor society of education, is to foster the development and advancement of educators worldwide,” said Jennifer Silberberg, president of the Alpha Epsilon Omega chapter of KDP at SJC Brooklyn. “With the Celebration of Teaching event, we're aiming to inspire current middle and high school students to pursue the rewarding career of teaching and illustrating all that the profession has to offer.”
