BROOKLYN, N.Y. – November 18, 2019 – St. Joseph’s College (SJC) is proud to announce that it will partner with Grandma’s Love to gather food for Brooklyn families in need. This year’s project aims to prepare 75 bags of food for families across the borough so that they can enjoy Thanksgiving with their loved ones. The food will be packed by SJC students at the College on Friday, November 22.
“Our annual partnership with Grandma's Love provides the SJC community with the chance to tangibly express our gratitude for all of the blessings we have received over the past year,” said SJC President Donald R. Boomgaarden, Ph.D. “I couldn't be more proud of our students. Their service and generosity towards others are a fine example of how we as a community live the mission of the College.”
Sponsored by SJC Brooklyn’s Student Government Association (SGA) and the Campus Activities Board (CAB), this program brings together SJC’s athletic teams, clubs and administrative offices to provide food items for eligible families. Last year, the SJC Brooklyn community collected enough food to completely cover five eight-foot long tables and easily exceeded their original goal of helping 60 families.
“For many families in Brooklyn, the holidays aren't a time of joy, but rather stress as the daily struggle to provide runs headlong into the expectations of the season,” said Theresa Monforte-Caraballo, founder of Grandma's Love. “Our annual collaboration with SJC Brooklyn enables Grandma's Love to bring joy to our families and eases their worries. Not only will each of our families have a full Thanksgiving meal but also food for the whole long weekend.”
