BROOKLYN, N.Y. – October 28, 2016 – The Office of Student Life at St. Joseph’s College (SJC) will welcome James Clementi, co-founder of the Tyler Clementi Foundation (TCF), on Wednesday, November 9 at 1 p.m. in the Tuohy Hall Auditorium. At this event, Clementi will discuss the #Day 1 Pledge and TCF’s efforts to eliminate the culture of bullying.
“We are very proud to partner once again with the Tyler Clementi Foundation and to embrace their message about the importance of affirming one's dignity and self-worth,” said Sherrie Van Arnam, vice president for student life at SJC Brooklyn. “At SJC, our culture is one of inclusion. By taking this pledge, students serve as ambassadors of our values as they work to prevent bullying.”
The #Day 1 pledge is a nationwide initiative to engage people, inform them about bullying and empower them to recognize and stand up against the harassment of others.
Created after the suicide of Tyler Clementi, a college freshman who took his own life after he was cyberbullied, TCF works to end bullying in schools, workplaces and in faith communities. Through educational partnerships, research, public dialogues and awareness programs, TCF fosters empathetic, constructive discussions of respect and dignity for youth and families, at all levels of society.
This event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Michael Banach at 718.940.5584 or [email protected].
