SJC Long Island Appoints New Vice President for Student Life

PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – April 29, 2015 – St. Joseph’s College (SJC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Rose Mary Howell, Ed.D., as vice president for student life on the College’s Long Island Campus, effective July 1. Dr. Howell will assume responsibility for all areas related to the student experience outside of the classroom, including accessibility services and student conduct. She will also provide guidance and leadership to a variety of student services and offices, and work collaboratively with the Office of Student Life on the College’s Brooklyn Campus.

“I am pleased to join St. Joseph's College with its long history of serving the community and making a positive impact on the lives of countless students,” said Dr. Howell. “I look forward to serving with President Calareso and members of St. Joseph's College as we continue to provide an exemplary education and opportunities for students and our communities.”

Dr. Howell has had a long and distinguished career in student life, during which time she has held numerous leadership positions. Most recently, she served as the Dean of Students at Montclair State University in New Jersey. Prior to that, she served as the Dean of Student Services at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City and held a variety of positions at Rutgers University in New Jersey.

Dr. Howell holds an Ed.D. in Educational Administration with a specialty in higher education from Rutgers University, Graduate School of Education, an M.A. in Educational Administration and Supervision from New York University and a B.A. in Education and Health Science from Brooklyn College. She currently resides in Wayne, New Jersey with her husband, Laurence (Tony).
