PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – May 20, 2019 – St. Joseph’s College (SJC) is proud to announce that four students will be the first graduates of SJC Long Island’s master’s in forensic computing program at the College’s 100th annual Commencement on May 29.
Darien Berrios, Connor Dillon, Daniel Dragotti and Edward Hamel completed the 33-credit program which includes courses in Criminal Procedures and Legal Rights, Cyber Crime, Ethics and Criminal Justice, Fraud Examination, Network Security and Computer Forensic Investigation. Students are also required to complete an internship.
“St. Joseph's College is proud of this group and all of our graduates,” said Victoria Hong, director of SJC Long Island’s M.S. in Forensic Computing program and chairperson of mathematics and computer science. “Our forensic computing program provides a strong background for students interested in expanding or starting a new career in cybersecurity or computer forensics. The demand for professionals with the skills this program provides, continues to grow at a rapid rate and we are pleased to train the next generation of workers.”
The master’s in forensic computing program was introduced at SJC Long Island in fall 2017. The College has partnered with the Nassau County Police Department, the U.S. Marshal’s Office and private companies throughout Long Island to provide internships to students.
“For students with a computer background, this program offers the opportunity to expand technical skills in the area of cybersecurity,” said Hong. “For students with other backgrounds, this program provides entrance into the cybersecurity or forensic investigation fields. All of our graduates have found employment as IT or security professionals.”
