PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – October 15, 2015 – St. Joseph’s College (SJC) will sponsor LaunchPad Huntington’s first Long Island STEAM Innovation Conference for Business, Educators and the Arts on Tuesday, November 17 at LaunchPad Huntington in Huntington, New York. In addition, Victoria Hong, associate chairperson and assistant professor in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at SJC Long Island, will be a panelist at the event.
“St. Joseph's College is a proud sponsor of LaunchPad and the STEAM conference,” said Gail Lamberta, Ph.D., associate dean for community development and chairperson for the Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies at SJC. “LaunchPad has been a great resource for many start-up companies and St. Joseph's College, and their commitment to expanding businesses on Long Island is something that we support.”
The conference will feature a panel of experts moderated by Kenneth White of Brookhaven National Laboratory. Alongside Hong, panelists include Andrew Grefig, director of curriculum and content at Teq, and Nancy Richner, museum education director at the Hofstra University Museum.
The Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) high profile curriculum push is evolving into STEA(art)M, to create a new class of innovation and invention. The success of STEAM will require active participation by industry innovators who are developing the technology-based tools and creative applications of those tools that schools will need to implement.
There is no cost to attend this event. Register online or contact Phil Rugile at 516.882.1200, ext. 108.
