PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – December 5, 2018 – Students at St. Joseph’s College (SJC) have been keeping extra busy this December, not only with their finals, but with their efforts to give back to their local communities.

Some of the wonderful initiatives SJC students have been involved in are toy collections for Toys for Tots, a winter coat drive, creating holiday cards for children in Good Samaritan Hospital and collecting toys, clothing, school supplies and other items for local children. In addition, students will gather to gift wrap presents that were collected through SJC Long Island’s Office of Campus Ministry.

“There are people who are in need and we are called to serve others,” said Joshua Hammer ’21, political science major at SJC Long Island. “The holiday season can really amplify situations for people so it is important that we all take the time to help each other when in need. For some families, the holiday season is a difficult reminder of the realities they face throughout the year, so we take pride in being able to help others find the joy in the season.”

Throughout the year, SJC students work hard to fulfill the College’s mission of leading lives of social responsibility and service. Over the course of the academic year, students complete a number of community service projects in countless communities on Long Island.
