SJC Long Island to Host Annual Northeast Regional Ethics Bowl

October 16, 2015 LI

PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – OCTOBER 16, 2015 – St. Joseph’s College (SJC) is pleased to announce that the annual Northeast Regional Ethics Bowl will be held at SJC Long Island this year. The competition will take place on Saturday, November 14 from 7 a.m. – 6 p.m., and will include participants from 25 other colleges and universities.

The annual competition is a team debate in which students examine high profile legal cases and offer well-reasoned ethical analyses to help develop critical skills that can be applied to all career pursuits. Each participating team will seek to qualify for the National Ethics Bowl.

“St. Joseph's College is proud to host the Northeast Regional Ethics Bowl, an educationally valuable experience for students,” said Landon Frim, Ph.D., assistant professor of philosophy at SJC Long Island. “Each fall, hundreds of students in teams across the United States and Canada compete in competitions. The teams argue and defend their moral assessment of some of the most troubling and complex ethical issues that society is facing today.”

The annual Northeast Regional Ethics Bowl gives hundreds of students from the United States and Canada the opportunity to participate in an academic competition, combining excitement with a valuable educational experience in practical and professional ethics. The cases that are presented to competitors are developed by ethics faculty, researchers and professionals. During the course of the competition, students must demonstrate their understanding of the facts of each case and articulate the related ethical principles.

Registration and breakfast will begin at 7 a.m. in the John A. Danzi Athletic Center. For more information, contact Landon Frim at 631.687.5190 or [email protected].
