PATCHOGUE, N.Y. DECEMBER 12, 2013 St. Josephs College (SJC) is pleased to announce that two teams of undergraduate students from the Department of Philosophy recently participated in the Annual Northeast Regional Ethics Bowl Competition held this year at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Conn.
The annual competition is a team debate in which students examine high profile legal cases and offer well-reasoned ethical analyses to help develop critical skills that can be applied to all career pursuits. Approximately 20 teams participated, each seeking to move on to the 17th Annual Intercollegiate Ethics Bowl, held this February in San Antonio, Texas.
"Once again the students of St. Joseph's College performed extremely well at this event, said Landon Frim, assistant professor of philosophy at SJC. "After expertly displaying their knowledge of ethical framework and moral philosophy, one of our two teams qualified for the quarter-finals and surpassed other powerhouse colleges, such as Tufts University and the United States Military Academy at West Point. I am extremely proud of the dedication, collaboration and skills that were showcased in this years competition.
The Annual Northeast Regional Ethics Bowl Competition gives students the opportunity to participate in an academic competition, combining excitement with a valuable educational experience in practical and professional ethics. The cases that are presented to competitors are developed by ethics faculty, researchers and professionals. During the course of the competition, students must demonstrate their understanding of the facts of each case and articulate the related ethical principles.
