ST. JOSEPH’S UNIVERSITY, NEW YORK PROFESSOR EARNS BWLI POWER AWARD

PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – October 8, 2024 – St. Joseph’s University, New York (SJNY) is pleased to announce that Renee White, Ed.D., professor of child study, and literacy and cognition, has been selected as an honoree for the Black Women of Long Island (BWLI) Power Awards, celebrating Black excellence and highlighting the contributions of powerful women from various industries. Dr. White will receive her award on Sunday, November 17 at the Power Brunch Awards, the final event in a three-day celebration that also includes a kickoff mixer on Friday, November 15 and an all-day conference on Saturday, November 16. 

“On behalf of St. Joseph’s, we are proud to congratulate our colleague Dr. Renee White on this prestigious award,” said Eileen White Jahn, executive dean for the Long Island Campus. “Renee brings a wealth of knowledge to our Department of Child Study, and our students are fortunate to benefit from her wisdom and experience.”

Dr. White is a professor of child study, and literacy and cognition with nearly 40 years of experience. Specializing in the importance of multicultural diversity and parental involvement as the foundation of a child's education, Dr. White has written numerous articles, book chapters, papers for national and international conferences, and co-authored the book, The Hard-to-Reach Parent: Old Challenges, New Insights with Larry E. Decker. 

In addition to her role at SJNY, Dr. White is the founder and CEO of Renee’s Way, Inc., a consulting firm dedicated to uplifting underserved communities, particularly women and children of color. Through her inspirational poetry, transformative keynote speaking and interactive workshops, she makes a profound impact on both national and international stages. Her bestselling books, Sistah Girl: Step into Your Greatness and Yo Bro: Strive Toward Excellence, provide young adults with essential literacy and social-emotional skills. Additionally, Embrace Your Power: A Sistah to Sistah Conversation, offers a poetic journey of self-reflection and empowerment for women.
