Two Standout Students to Receive Alumni Scholarship

PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – SEPTEMBER 21, 2018 – St. Joseph’s College (SJC) is pleased to announce that Theresa Cameron ’19 and Kaitlyn Rodriguez ’19 will be awarded the Thomas J. Wendt ’88 Alumni Scholarship at this year’s Honors Convocation to be held at SJC Long Island on Thursday, October 11.

“The Thomas J. Wendt Alumni Scholarship is awarded to students to recognize their service to the College and local community, success in the classroom and commitment to SJC’s mission,” said Paige Napoli Carbone ’02, director of alumni engagement at SJC. “This year, we are pleased to award the scholarship to two passionate and intelligent seniors who showcase years of service and volunteerism, and exhibit the spirit of Tom. On behalf of the SJC alumni, I congratulate both students.”

Theresa Cameron is majoring in human services with a 4.0 GPA. She has volunteered for the American Heart Association and Habitat for Humanity. A licensed practical nurse, Theresa has worked as an EMT, CPR instructor and volunteer firewoman. She recently completed an internship with SJC Long Island’s Institute for Attainable Homes.

Currently serving as president of SJC’s Student Government Association, Kaitlyn Rodriguez has a 3.89 GPA and is majoring in child study with a concentration in mathematics and computer science. She is a member of Students Taking an Active Role in Society, the Child Study Club, Project Sunshine and Habitat for Humanity. 

The Thomas J. Wendt ’88 Alumni Scholarship is named for a former employee and alumnus who was dedicated to volunteerism and charitable causes. After Wendt’s passing in 2004, SJC established a memorial scholarship in his name to benefit students who play an active part in the College and the surrounding community.
