Brooklyn Campus Council for the Arts Presents Dawn Lee

February 12, 2015

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – February 12, 2015 – The Brooklyn Campus Council for the Arts is pleased to announce that it will showcase the paintings and drawings of Dawn Lee, associate professor and chair of SJC’s Department of Art, from January 28 to March 11 in the Alumni Room Gallery in Tuohy Hall. A gallery talk will take place on Thursday, February 19 at 12:40 p.m. Gallery hours are Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. and Saturday from noon to 3 p.m.

Dawn Lee has been surrounded by art since childhood, as both her mother and father were painters. Creative processes were always an integral part of her life, and maintaining the connection between experience and art is one of her major passions. Being an avid lover of the outdoors, nature is the inspiration for her paintings, prints and drawings, which have been exhibited nationally and throughout the New York area. Ms. Lee has lived and worked on Long Island since 1990. She is originally from Colorado, where she received her BFA in printmaking, and moved to Brooklyn, New York to study painting at the Pratt Institute. She later received her MFA in painting from Long Island University.

“I am an artist intrigued by the creation of two-dimensional imagery,” said Ms. Lee. “Most of my artwork is derived from techniques involving painting, drawing and printmaking. My artistic vision is defined by a passionate commitment to art, nature and outdoor experiences. Nature presents information in profound ways—my subject and processes combine to convey a sense of energy."
