BROOKLYN, N.Y. November 27, 2013 St. Josephs College (SJC) is pleased to announce that its Freshman Year Experience (FYE) students have partnered with P.S. 65 Mother Hale Academy in the Bronx to once again deliver holiday gifts to students in need. This project, an annual undertaking by the Office of Student Life, brings together the freshman class and seeks to instill a spirit of community service by having students participate in a community service project for the holidays.
This Monday, members of the Office of Student Life turned Tuohy Hall into a veritable Santas workshop as they sorted, wrapped and loaded holiday presents to be delivered to P.S. 65. All of the gifts were purchased by either the students themselves or SJC faculty and staff. In total, 200 gifts were prepared and delivered to the grateful children.
"It was great to partner with P.S. 65 to make the holiday season a bit merrier for their students," said Brooklyn Campus Athletic Director and FYE Moderator Frank Carbone. "For our freshmen, it was a powerful lesson that showed what they could accomplish while working toward a common goal. The fact that this project benefited so many children during this time of year made it all the better."
"We look forward to working with St. Joseph's College again this year to improve the quality of life of our students," said P.S. 65's assistant principal Jasmine Gonzalez. "The time, effort and quality of thought the students put into each gift was truly loving. The kindness and holiday spirit of St. Josephs College is greatly appreciated because it made a difference in the lives of our children thank you.
