Brooklyn FYE Students Bring Holiday Cheer to P.S. 65

BROOKLYN, NY – December 12, 2012 - St. Joseph’s College (SJC) is pleased to announce that its Freshman Year Experience (FYE) students have partnered with P.S. 65 in the Bronx to deliver holiday gifts to students in need. This project, an annual undertaking by the department of Student Life, brings together the freshman class and seeks to instill a spirit of community service by having them complete a community service project for the holidays during their first semester.

This year, Student Life turned the Tuohy Hall Auditorium into a veritable Santa’s Workshop as they sorted, wrapped and loaded up holiday presents to be delivered to P.S. 65. All of the gifts were purchased by the students themselves as well as SJC faculty and staff. In total, 240 gifts were prepared and delivered to the grateful children of P.S. 65.

“It was great to partner with P.S. 65 to help provide some holiday cheer to children that needed it,” said SJC Athletic Director and FYE Moderator Frank Carbone. “To bring all of these students together and have them work toward a common goal illustrates to them what they can accomplish when they come together, and the fact that this project benefited so many children during this time of year made it all the better.”

“On behalf of P.S. 65, I would like to thank the St. Joseph’s faculty, staff and students for making this time of the year a little less stressful for family heads who could not afford a gift for their child,” said P.S. 65 Principal Ms. Jasmine Gonzalez. “The way they brought  good cheer and joy to young children is a genuine display of loving kindness, and the way they worked together to help others in need is truly inspirational!”
