BROOKLYN, NY – July 29, 2014 – St. Joseph’s College (SJC), in partnership with Greenlight Bookstore, is pleased to announce that it will host author and TIME magazine book critic Lev Grossman as part of the summer Brooklyn Voices lecture series on Tuesday, August 5 at 7:30 p.m., where he will launch his new book, The Magician’s Land, in conversation with fellow fantasy authors Lauren Oliver, Margaret Stohl and Erin Morganstern. Following this talk, the authors and other surprise guests will conduct a dramatic presentation featuring elements of the book.
"I'm especially thrilled to be hosting Lev Grossman for this launch event -- he's a neighbor and friend of Greenlight, and I am personally an obsessive fan of the Magicians series, which I will tell anyone who will listen is far better than Harry Potter,” said Jessica Stockton Bagnulo, co-owner of Greenlight Bookstore. “Lev has a lot of fans out there who will love this conclusion to the series, and we're looking forward to hosting a star-studded lineup of fantasy authors to help celebrate the launch."
A resident of Fort Greene, Grossman is the author of the bestselling Magicians trilogy, which opened with The Magicians, described by Junot Diaz as “stirring, complex, adventurous… [a] superb coming of age fantasy.” It was later followed by its sequel, The Magician King, which has been cited as “a spellbinding stereograph, a literary adventure novel that is also about privilege, power and the limits of being human” by NPR. Legions of fans now await The Magician’s Land, the concluding novel of the trilogy full of the subversive brilliance that has put Grossman at the forefront of modern fantasy.
This event, which is free and open to the public, will take place in the Tuohy Hall Auditorium located on the Brooklyn Campus of SJC at 245 Clinton Avenue, Brooklyn. A “Magicians” trivia contest will precede the talk at 7 p.m. and will include “Magicians-related” prizes for the winner.
