SJC Brooklyn’s Freshman Year Experience (FYE) students partnered with P.S. 65 in the Bronx for SJC Elves, an annual program that provides Christmas gifts to children in need. Each year, this project brings together the freshman class to develop an awareness of community service by having them collaborate on a project for the holidays during their first semester.
"SJC Elves has always been one of the more popular community service events we organize," said Sherrie Van Arnam, vice president of student life for SJC Brooklyn. "Not only does it provide holiday joy to children in need, but it also shows freshmen how their hard work and generosity can impact others."
On Monday, December 7, the entire freshman class turned the Tuohy Hall Auditorium into a holiday workshop as they wrapped and loaded up holiday presents to be delivered to P.S. 65. All of the gifts were purchased by the students themselves, as well as St. Joseph’s faculty and staff. In all, 115 holiday presents will be delivered to the grateful children of P.S. 65.
"SJC Elves is a fantastic program that provides gifts for students who may have otherwise not received them," said Anahy Guzman, freshman class representative, SJC Brooklyn. "We're proud to have done this and made the holidays brighter for the children of P.S. 65."
