Oscar-Nominated Actress Rosie Perez to Present Brooklyn Voices

BROOKLYN, N.Y. February 6, 2014 St. Josephs College (SJC) is pleased to announce that Oscar-nominated actress, choreographer, author and long-time Clinton Hill resident Rosie Perez will present the next Brooklyn Voices lecture on Wednesday, February 26 at 7:30 p.m. in the Tuohy Hall Auditorium located on the Colleges Brooklyn Campus. At this event, she will discuss her memoir, Handbook for an Unpredictable Life, in conversation with writer and theater critic Hilton Als. Held in partnership with Greenlight Bookstore, this talk is free and open to the public.

"I am delighted that Rosie Perez has chosen SJC for her book event, said SJCs Brooklyn Campus Executive Dean Dr. Richard Greenwald. "Ms. Perez has been an important force in our community and offers a unique perspective on life that I believe will be of interest to the SJC community.

A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., Rosie Perez is best known for her effervescent personality and memorable roles in Do The Right Thing, White Men Cant Jump, Pineapple Express, The Counselor and Fearless, which she received an Oscar nomination for best supporting actress. But most of her fans would be surprised to learn that she had a childhood straight out of a Dickens novelabandoned by her schizophrenic mother, then sent to live at a Catholic home for boys and girls. In her new memoir Handbook for an Unpredictable Life, Perez tells her story in her own inimitable voice, as well as sharing stories from her professional life.
