SJC and City Council Member Partner to Bring School Supplies to Benjamin Banneker High School

September 25, 2014

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – September 25, 2014 – St. Joseph’s College (SJC) partnered with City Council Member Laurie Cumbo (D-35th District) to provide 100 low-income students at Benjamin Banneker High School with new school supplies. At this event, participating students received backpacks outfitted with the necessary supplies to successfully support their studies.

This event was a product of several meetings between SJC and City Council Member Cumbo, both of whom share the same commitment to ensuring that the students of the 35th District have the necessary educational opportunities to prepare them for successful lives and careers.

"As a long-standing anchor in the Clinton Hill community, we're so glad that we were able to partner with CM Cumbo to bring school supplies to students in the community," stated Dr. Jill Rehmann, interim academic dean at SJC’s Brooklyn Campus. "St. Joseph's is committed to working with our neighbors and partners in the community to ensure that the students of Clinton Hill have the resources they need to thrive in school and achieve their full potential."

“The education of our city’s youth is a collaborative effort between parents, teachers and the community,” said Council Member Cumbo. “It is our shared responsibility to provide the tools, resources and opportunities that will both enable and empower students to succeed within and beyond the classroom. As the next generation of leaders, it is critical that we continue to invest in their growth and development as competitive global citizens. I thank St. Joseph’s College for their support in this endeavor.”
