SJC Brooklyn Council for the Arts Presents Mystique

BROOKLYN, N.Y – March 11, 2016 – The  Council for the Arts at St. Joseph’s College (SJC) is pleased to announce that it will showcase the works of four local artists in an exhibit entitled Mystique from March 14 to April 22. This exhibit, curated by local artist and educator Meridith McNeal, will be featured in the Alumni Room Gallery at SJC Brooklyn. 

The Oxford Dictionary defines mystique as a fascinating aura of mystery, awe and power surrounding someone or something. Betty Friedan employed the word to great effect in her 1963 classic, The Feminine Mystique, a book that paved the way for many women to embrace the power of their female identity. This exhibition brings together four women – Stephanie A. Lindquist, Glendalys Medina, Florence Neal, and Pamela Talese – all of whom, across their respective mediums, dive into their art with awesome and powerful verve.

There will be an opening reception on Wednesday, March 30 from 5:30 to 8 p.m., which is free and open to the public. Gallery hours are Wednesdays from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturdays from 1 to 3 p.m. For more information, contact Ramona Candy at 718.940.5351 or [email protected]. 

The Council for the Arts is a coalition of students, faculty members and staff who serve as a focal point for SJC Brooklyn’s educational and community outreach programming in the arts. By expanding and integrating campus arts activities, the Council seeks to enhance the public image of the College as a cultural center in Brooklyn and aims to make arts and cultural events more accessible to its students and area neighbors.
