BROOKLYN, N.Y. – August 3, 2021 – St. Joseph’s College (SJC) is pleased to announce that Andrew Wenzler ’21 has received SJC Brooklyn’s inaugural Donald R. Boomgaarden Leadership in Action Award. Wenzler was selected for his positive leadership qualities, continuously displaying traits that contributed to a positive campus environment and enhancing the quality of student life through her participation in campus groups. Carly Credidio ’21 received the award for SJC Long Island in Patchogue.
“The Donald R. Boomgaarden Leadership in Action Award was created to acknowledge and celebrate the dedicated and tireless leadership President Boomgaarden exemplified in guiding SJC during the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Christopher R. Carroll, ’88, Esq., chair of SJC's Board of Trustees. “The inaugural winners, Carly Credidio and Andrew Wenzler, both graduates of the Class of 2021, have excelled in academics and service and demonstrated positive leadership and extraordinary involvement in the SJC community.”
Andrew Wenzler double-majored in child study and speech communication studies and was a member of the Sigma Iota Pi, Delta Epsilon Sigma and Kappa Delta Pi honor societies. He was a member of SJC Brooklyn’s service club S.T.R.I.P.E.S., attended two alternative spring break trips, led the annual Thanksgiving Food Drive and the Giving Tree, and participated in many fundraiser and community service events on campus.
The Donald R. Boomgaarden Leadership in Action Award will annually recognize one graduating senior from both SJC campuses who have demonstrated positive leadership while embodying the College’s mission and motto, Esse Non Videri: ‘To be, not to seem.’ In addition, the students must have a minimum GPA of 3.5, demonstrated service over the course of their college career, outstanding involvement in co-curricular activities and have made significant contributions to the SJC community which evoked positive social change.
