BROOKLYN, N.Y. – April 10, 2017 – St. Joseph’s College’s (SJC) Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management (HTM) and Hospitalented, SJC’s HTM service club, are pleased to announce that they will host a two-day conference, “Art in a Bottle,” on April 28 and 29 in SJC Brooklyn’s Tuohy Hall Auditorium. This event will feature leading industry figures to discuss the integral role of packaging and visual branding in the purchase and consumption of beverages and food.
“The goal of both our department and Hospitalented is to create an intimate environment in which our students can learn from leading figures in the field, and other businesses which lie on the periphery of the growing and thriving hospitality industry,” said Damien Duchamp, chair of the Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management at SJC Brooklyn. “Art in a Bottle, which is being completely executed by our event planning class, is a perfect illustration of this; it provides our students with valuable experience while showcasing how different elements of design, marketing and hospitality intersect to create a brand and generate profits.”
The conference launches on Friday, April 28 at 6 p.m. with remarks from leaders in the Brooklyn tourism industry and will feature tastings from select distillers and vintners (21 and over only). The program on Saturday, April 29 will run from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and feature speakers from several different brands of products, ranging from wine, honey, condiments and water to discuss the various aspects of design and branding and how creating a visual identity helps drive customers to their products, as well as a closing event sponsored by philanthropic vintner Proud Pour.
“Art in a Bottle illustrates the alchemy of professional studies and the liberal arts in a compelling and thought-provoking manner,” said Barbara Garii, Ph.D., vice president for academic affairs at SJC Brooklyn. “Through its examination of the science of why we purchase things and how packaging and branding drives these activities, students and guests alike will gain a greater appreciation of the conscious effort that goes into marketing and of their own behaviors as consumers.”
This conference is open to the public. For tickets and a complete schedule of events, visit aiab.org. For more information, contact Damien Duchamp at [email protected].
