January 13, 2016

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – JANUARY 13, 2016 – St. Joseph’s College (SJC) is pleased to announce the introduction of a Master of Science in Forensic Computing to its graduate program offerings. The program will be available at SJC Brooklyn starting the 2016 fall semester.

“Since 1916, St. Joseph’s College has been dedicated to preparing the next generation of leaders, and continually develops new programs that meet the needs of our students,” said Joseph Pascarella, Ph.D., associate professor and associate chair of SJC Brooklyn’s Department of Criminal Justice. “We are excited to begin offering this brand new program in forensic computing to prepare current and future professionals who are engaged in securing cyber space and preventing crimes of information in both the private and public sectors.”

Approved by the New York State Education Department, the M.S. in Forensic Computing (MSFC) was designed to integrate curriculum from three core areas: criminal justice, math/computer information technology/computer science and accounting. The MSFC will focus on providing students with an advanced degree that combines a background in network security, cyber security, forensic accounting and the criminal justice process. The degree is intended for practitioners in information technology, criminal justice and accounting, and for students who want to embark on a career in these growing and expanding fields.

According to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, information technology security specialist employment will increase by 37 percent over the next 10 years, placing it among the nation's fastest growing career paths, and the New York City metropolitan area is emerging as a primary hub in need of this talent.

The program will require a minimum of 33 credits with several required courses including: cyber crimes, network security, criminal procedure and computer forensics investigation. In addition, students have the option to participate in internship opportunities.
