PATCHOGUE AND BROOKLYN, NY MAY 14, 2010 The Faculty Resource Center and Office of the Provost in collaboration with the Office of Technology and Information Services at St. Josephs College will host the first SJC Technology-in-Education Conference for faculty members on both campuses. The Long Island conference will be held on Monday, May 17 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in OConnor Hall. The Brooklyn conference will be held on Tuesday, May 18 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Tuohy Hall.
The conference is a combination of faculty-led lecture presentations and hands-on computer lab workshops, addressing the application of innovative technology in the classroom. Sessions have been arranged based on feedback from faculty in a recent survey. Topics include the following concepts and tools: blackboard, collaboration, communication, creativity, multimedia, presentation and writing.
"The conference will expose SJC faculty members to technology that can be used in their courses with students and in collaboration with their peers, said Brian Wasson, technology training specialist for faculty and staff at SJC. "We hope to adapt the creation and delivery of course content to the technological world in which we live and work.
Presentation and workshop topics include, but are not limited to, "Turnitin: Its Not Just About Detecting Plagiarism, "Social Bookmarking: The Web 2.0 Way to Get Organized, "Writing and Collaboration Tools for the Digital World and "Course Websites: Creating a Valuable Resource for Your Students.
