SJC to Host Brooklyn Book Festival 2012 Bookend Event

BROOKLYN, NY September 12, 2012 As part of the Brooklyn Book Festival, St. Josephs College is pleased to announce that it will host a "Mystery Night bookend event on Tuesday, September 18 at 7 p.m. in the Tuohy Hall Auditorium located at 245 Clinton Avenue in Brooklyn. Featured guests include Andrew Cotto, author of Outerborough Blues: A Brooklyn Mystery, and Attica Locke, writer of The Cutting Season, who will read from their thrillers and discuss writing. Free and open to the public, this event will be moderated by Joseph Salvatore and will feature a question and answer session.
Andrew Cotto is a writer and teacher who resides in Brooklyn, NY. He is the author of two novels: The Domino Effect, which is a coming-of-age story about a kid from Queens with a damaged past and a complicated present at a boarding school in rural New Jersey; and Outerborough Blues: A Brooklyn Mystery, an unconventional noir about a drifter seeking a missing person and a remedy to his familys curse in the dawn of urban gentrification. Andrews articles have appeared in many national journals, including the New York Times, Mens Journal, Salon, the Good Men Project and Teachers & Writers Magazine. He has an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from The New School and a B.A. in Literature from Lynchburg College.
Attica Lockes first novel, Black Water Rising, was shortlisted for the prestigious Orange Prize in the UK in 2010. It was nominated for a 2010 Edgar Award, an NAACP Image Award, as well as a Los Angeles Times Book Prize and a Strand Magazine Critics Award. The novel was also a finalist for the Hurston-Wright Legacy Award. In addition, Attica has spent many years working as a screenwriter, penning movie and television scripts for Paramount, Warner Bros, Disney, Twentieth Century Fox, Jerry Bruckheimer Films, HBO and DreamWorks. She was a fellow at the Sundance Institutes Feature Filmmakers Lab and is a graduate of Northwestern University. A native of Houston, Texas, Attica lives in Los Angeles, CA, with her husband and daughter. She is a member of the board of directors for the Library Foundation of Los Angeles.
