BROOKLYN, N.Y. November 30, 2009 St. Josephs College is pleased to announce that it will host its first annual Clash For the Cup intercampus charity holiday basketball game on Saturday, December 12 at Brooklyn Technical High School in Brooklyn, NY. This doubleheader, featuring St. Josephs Colleges mens and womens basketball teams, will begin with the Brooklyn Lady Bears tipping off against Long Islands Lady Golden Eagles at 6 p.m., and will be followed by the mens teams at 8:30 p.m.
This year marks the inaugural Clash for the Cup where the mens and womens basketball teams from St. Josephs Colleges Brooklyn and Long Island campuses compete for the SJC Champions Cup. In the spirit of the season, the winning campus will receive $750 to donate to a charity of their choice; the losing campus will receive $250. The Brooklyn Campus team will be playing for the Special Olympics; the Long Island Campus is playing for the American Diabetes Association. If the series is split between the mens and womens teams, there will be a special tie-breaking shoot out among students from both campuses, which will determine the winner of the Cup.
"Were thrilled to be competing against our friends on the Long Island Campus to support these two great charities, said Frank Carbone, athletic director for the Brooklyn Campus. "When they first heard the news, our athletes were elated that they had the chance to make a difference in the lives of these kids. Were proud to be partnering with the Special Olympics and the American Diabetes Association for what will surely be an exciting and uplifting event.
Between games, the dance and step teams of each campus will perform; dance teams from both campuses will also perform a special combined holiday-themed dance. A championship ping-pong tournament, featuring the top students and staff finalists from both campuses will also take place. For more information, please contact Frank Carbone, athletic director, at 718.940.5833.
