SJC Welcomes TIME Columnist and Best-Selling Author Joe Klein

PATCHOGUE AND BROOKLYN, NY September 15, 2010 St. Josephs College is pleased to announce that Time magazine columnist and best-selling author Joe Klein will be the featured speaker for its Seventh Annual Presidential Lecture on Thursday, October 7 at 7:30 p.m. in the DEcclesiis Auditorium located in OConnor Hall on its Long Island Campus. Mr. Kleins lecture, "Where Have All the Leaders Gone, will also be presented on the Brooklyn Campus at 12:30 p.m.

One of the preeminent observers of American politics, Mr. Klein has covered both local and national political life for over 35 years. Prior to Time, Mr. Klein joined The New Yorker in December 1996 as Washington correspondent; he eventually became a Writer at Large, addressing events in our nations capital and abroad. Mr. Klein came to The New Yorker from Newsweek, where he served for four years as a political columnist. He joined Newsweek during the 1992 Presidential race, and his column, "Public Lives, addressed both national and international affairs.

Writing as an anonymous author, Mr. Klein wrote the critically acclaimed and No. 1 best-seller Primary Colors, which was inspired by the 1992 Presidential race and later made into a major motion picture. His other books include The Running Mate, The Natural: The Misunderstood Presidency of Bill Clinton (a New York Times best-seller), and his latest best-seller, Politics Lost.  A former Guggenheim Fellow and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, Mr. Klein currently writes "In the Arena a weekly column in Time Magazine, which covers national and international affairs. He also frequently appears on such programs as Meet The Press, The Chris Matthews Show and other prominent broadcasts.

Now in its seventh year, the Annual Presidential Lecture Series was established to further the educational goals of the College and to support its mission: Esse non videri: "To be, not to seem. Each year, St. Josephs hosts a distinguished member of public life with experience, knowledge and perspectives that challenge the College as an academic community and the community at large as citizens in the 21st century. The annual series reflects the liberal arts ideals of free and open inquiry.
