SJNY PRESENTS ACTOR ETHAN HAWKE AND AUTHOR TOMMY ORANGE FOR BROOKLYN VOICES SERIES

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – February 20, 2024 – St. Joseph’s University, New York (SJNY), in partnership with Greenlight Bookstore, will host Tommy Orange, Pulitzer Prize-finalist and author of the breakout bestseller There There, to present his new novel Wandering Stars on Tuesday, March 5 at 7:30 p.m. Actor and author Ethan Hawke will join Orange for a discussion, followed by a book signing.

“We are thrilled to partner once again with Greenlight Bookstore for the highly anticipated Brooklyn Voices series,” said Phillip Dehne, Ph.D., SJNY Brooklyn campus executive dean. “Tommy Orange and Ethan Hawke bring a wealth of talent and artistry to our campus, and we look forward to welcoming them.”

In his latest novel that extends his constellation of narratives into the past and future, Orange traces the legacies of the Sand Creek Massacre of 1864 and the Carlisle Indian Industrial School through three generations of a family in a story that is by turns shattering and wondrous. 

Tommy Orange is a 2014 MacDowell Fellow and a 2016 Writing by Writers Fellow, as well as a graduate of the MFA program at the Institute of American Indian Arts. He is an enrolled member of the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes of Oklahoma, and was born and raised in Oakland, California. He now lives in Angels Camp, California, with his wife and son.

In addition to an extensive career in film and theatre, Ethan Hawke is an author and cofounder of the Malaparte Theater Company in New York City. He has earned numerous awards and nominations for his work, including a Tony Award nomination, BAFTA, Golden Globe, and SAG Award for Best Supporting Actor.
