St. Joseph’s College to Launch Summer Institute Program This July
April 21, 2013
BROOKLYN, N.Y. April 22, 2013 St. Josephs College is pleased to announce that it will launch the Summer Institute at St. Josephs College (SI@SJC), the first-ever summer camp program on the Brooklyn Campus. This program provides a summer camp enrichment experience to both a middle and high school audience and will take place over the course of four weeks, featuring week-long sessions starting on Monday, July 8, and concluding on Friday, August 2.
SI@SJC seeks to provide motivated tweens and teens with a unique enrichment experience in six different programs, including fashion design, veterinary science, creative writing, forensic science, creative arts and education (for high school students only). By focusing intensely on one topic over the course of one week, participants will have the chance to learn a considerable amount in a condensed time period. Classes will be sorted according to age, and all students will have the opportunity to showcase their work at the end of each session.
"The Summer Institute, or SI@SJC, will provide students with a unique opportunity to develop new skills and passions in a constructive and supportive environment, said Richard Greenwald, Ph.D., academic dean and professor on the Brooklyn Campus. "I can't think of a better or more enriching way to spend the summer.
The program features hands-on, project-based learning and is designed to give students an immersive experience in each of the chosen topics. Rather than having attendees sit in lecture-style classes, SI@SJC will be project and experience driven. Each course has unique local field trips to enhance classwork; for example, they may have the chance to visit veterinary offices to watch surgeries or other in-office procedures being done first-hand.
Admission to SI@SJC is done on a rolling basis and is subject to class size. Online registration is required at
www.sjcsummerinstitute.org, and a non-refundable deposit of $250 per student per session is required to reserve space. Tuition is discounted depending on how many sessions students are enrolled in the cost of one session is $575, two is $1075, three is $1450 and a full course load over four weeks will cost $1600. Deposits will be applied to full tuition. Final payment and the student profile are due by June 1. For students applying after June 1, the full program tuition is due upon completion of the application.
