BROOKLYN, N.Y. – February 20, 2025 – The St. Joseph’s University, New York (SJNY) Council for the Arts will present Cultural Crossroads, a group show curated by Lanie Lee. An opening reception will take place on March 6 at 5:30 p.m., followed by artist talks on Wednesday, March 26 at 12:40 p.m. and Saturday, April 12 at 1 p.m.
Cultural Crossroads explores how American culture is enriched by the influences of many diverse cultures. The exhibiting artists, Areta Buk, Abbysinian Carto, Janice DeMarino, Adeet Deshmukh, Prawat Lauchareon and Lanie Lee, bring different cross-cultural perspectives to their work that are personal and insightful. Some of these influences are from heritage while others are from connections and experiences with other cultures. Connections are made with imagery, symbols, techniques and materials. The intersections of American culture with other cultures are interpreted metaphorically, spiritually, philosophically and psychologically.
“We are excited to showcase such a diverse collection of works,” said Ramona Candy, director of SJNY Brooklyn's Council for the Arts. “The artists all exhibit unique attributes and a rich cross-cultural perspective with their art, and we look forward to discussing their creative process with them.”
Curator Lanie Lee also curated a group exhibition at the New York Public Library’s Hudson Park Gallery in 2024.
These events are free and open to the public, and will take place in the Alumni Room Gallery of Tuohy Hall at 245 Clinton Avenue in Brooklyn.
