June 20, 2018
BROOKLYN, N.Y. – June 20, 2018 – The Writer’s Foundry at St. Joseph’s College (SJC) is pleased to announce that it will host an event entitled “Life After the MFA” to showcase and celebrate the opportunities that exist with an advanced degree in creative writing. The event will take place on Thursday, June 28 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. in SJC’s Tuohy Hall Parlors.
The event will kick-off with a panel discussion about the writing and publishing industry. The panel includes Amelia Atlas, literary agent from International Creative Management; Andrew Martin, novelist, short-story writer and literary critic; and Nathan McClain, poet and Writer’s Foundry at SJC faculty member.
The discussion will be led and moderated by Lee Clay Johnson, author of the novel Nitro Mountain. At this event, participants will learn about the flexibility of the MFA and how to break into the publishing world, secure an agent and find a job while living the life or a writer.
Following the panel discussion, McClain and Pulitzer Award-finalist David Gates will read selections from their original works. The event is free and refreshments will be served.
