BROOKLYN, NY September 3, 2013 - St. Josephs College (SJC) is pleased to announce that it will welcome its 97th incoming freshman class to the Brooklyn Campus for the 2013-14 academic year. This cohort of students, scheduled to graduate in 2017, represents one of the most diverse and academically gifted incoming classes in the Colleges history.
In keeping with SJCs mission of providing a quality liberal arts education at a reasonable cost, this years incoming class consists of a diverse population of students from different backgrounds and areas from within the five boroughs, as well as a growing number of out-of-state and international students. To help offset the cost of tuition, SJC provides generous scholarships to students who qualify and financial aid options to help students afford a top quality education at one of the most affordable private colleges in the New York metropolitan area. In total, approximately 75 percent of SJC students receive some form of financial aid.
In addition, this year marks the inaugural class of the Writers Foundry, the first-ever boutique graduate program in the Colleges history. This unique program seeks to prepare writers by recognizing that all writing is, by nature, a creative act, and by acknowledging this, the Foundry hopes to develop writing by honing ones skills through discovery and introspection, rather than trial and error, across a wide range of genres.
"As we start a new academic year at SJC, we turn our attention once again to the central tenants of our mission, said Dr. Richard Greenwald, SJCs Brooklyn Campus academic dean of the School of Arts and Sciences. "We have much to celebrate this yeara new Center for Student Engagement, a new gym and athletic center nearing completion, and new majorsbut at the forefront are our wonderful students. We welcome our new students today into our community of learning and we hope they flourish.
