Brooklyn Voices Presents Peter Singer

BROOKLYN, N.Y. –  April 1, 2015 – St. Joseph’s College (SJC), in partnership with Greenlight Bookstore, is pleased to announce that it will welcome philosopher Peter Singer to Tuohy Hall on the Brooklyn Campus on Tuesday, April 14 at 7:30 p.m. as part of the spring Brooklyn Voices lecture series. This event, which will feature Singer in conversation with Michael Specter of The New Yorker, is Singer’s only public New York City book event on his launch tour.

It's a rare chance to host one of the world's most fascinating and profound philosophers to the Campus," said Dr. Jill Rehmann, executive dean on SJC’s Brooklyn Campus. "As an institution, altruism and service lie at the core of our mission, and we look forward to hearing his thoughts on how best to serve our community and fellow citizens."

Peter Singer first became well-known internationally after the publication of Animal Liberation in 1975.  Born in Australia, he currently teaches at Princeton University and the University of Melbourne. Singer’s new book, The Most Good You Can Do: How Effective Altruism is Changing Ideas About Living Ethically, presents the ideas behind a challenging new movement of people who want to live more altruistically and to make sure that what they do has the greatest possible impact for good.
