BROOKLYN, N.Y. – November 8, 2016 – St. Joseph’s College (SJC), in partnership with Greenlight Bookstore, is pleased to continue its Brooklyn Voices series with Zadie Smith who will discuss her latest work, Swing Time, in conversation with writer Ashley Ford on Wednesday, November 16 at 7:30 p.m. in the Tuohy Hall Auditorium.
“With her latest novel, Zadie Smith examines the themes of friendship, race, wealth and inequality,” said Barbara Garii, Ph.D, vice president for academic affairs at SJC Brooklyn. “As our students begin their adult lives, I find the friendship of the two protagonists a compelling reminder of how the influences of one’s formative years remain with a person long after lives changes and people grow apart.”
Zadie Smith (White Teeth, On Beauty, NW) will present her new novel Swing Time, an ambitious, exuberant story about friendship, music and stubborn roots that moves from Northwest London to West Africa. Two girls dream of being dancers – but only one has talent. The other has ideas about rhythm and time, black bodies and black music, what constitutes a tribe or makes a person truly free.
Tickets are $30 and include a copy of the book and an opportunity to have it signed by Smith. For tickets, visit http://zadiesmith.brownpapertickets.com/. For more information, contact Michael Banach at 718.940.5584 or [email protected].
