The Long Island Campus Commencement will be held on Tuesday, May 26 at 3 p.m. at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale, New York.
Beginning her career at St. Joseph’s College as the director of student services and an instructor in English, S. Loretta later served as a professor, associate chairperson and chairperson of the English Department. In 1990, she was a visiting assistant professor of the graduate English department at Stony Brook University. S. Loretta continued her tenure at SJC as the vice president for academic affairs and the academic dean of the School of Arts and Sciences on the Long Island Campus. In 2005, she was appointed provost and has held that position for the past 10 years.
S. Loretta received a B.A. from Seton Hill College in Greensburg, Pennsylvania; an M.A. from Brooklyn College; and a Ph.D. from Stony Brook University. All three degrees were in English, with her master’s specifically in English Education.
“S. Loretta has been a relentless advocate for quality curriculum, student success and assessment,” said Jack P. Calareso, Ph.D., president of SJC. “A Sister of St. Joseph, S. Loretta has embodied the community’s charism in her work with those in greatest need and her advocacy for all people.”
Dedicated to SJC since 1978, S. Loretta will retire from her position as provost at the end of the spring semester. She will receive honorary Doctor of Arts and Humane Letters degrees at both commencement ceremonies. After a short one-semester sabbatical, S.
