Fourth Annual Youth Financial Literacy Program Launched on Brooklyn Campus

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – April 15, 2015 - St. Joseph’s College (SJC), the Brooklyn (Kings County) Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and the office of the Brooklyn Borough President are pleased to announce that they will launch the  Fourth Annual Youth Financial Literacy Program, on Thursday, April 23 at 4 p.m. at New Utrecht High School in Brooklyn. City Council Member Mark Treyger will serve as the keynote speaker.

"My goal is to help Brooklynites, especially our youth, achieve financial security through education, outreach and support,” said Eric L. Adams, Brooklyn borough president. “By connecting residents to free educational opportunities with experts, we can employ the tried and true ‘each one, teach one’ model to put Brooklyn back in control of its financial destiny with information that has been made available through our partnership with St. Joseph's College and the Brooklyn Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.”

This program, in partnership with New Utrecht High School, West Brooklyn Community High School, South Brooklyn Community High School and Cristo Rey High School, will take place from April 23 to May 26 at 4 p.m. at the following locations and feature the following topics and sponsors:

• April 23: New Utrecht High School, 1601 80th Street, Brooklyn “Personal Budgeting and Knowing Your Rights,” Investors Bank
• May 5: West Brooklyn High School, 1053 41st Street, Brooklyn, “How to Use Credit and Debit Cards,” Transamerica Financial Services
• May 14: Cristo Rey High School, 710 East 37th Street, Brooklyn, “Banking and Checking,” Astoria Bank
• May 26: St. Joseph’s College, 245 Clinton Avenue, Brooklyn, “The College Application and Financial Aid Process”

These sessions will discuss the basics of personal finance, such as credit, banking and budgeting, and will conclude with a seminar at SJC on the financial aid and college application processes. At the conclusion of these sessions, participating students will possess the knowledge they need to make informed decisions about their finances.
