October 28, 2014

BROOKLYN AND PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – October 28, 2014 – St. Joseph’s College (SJC) is pleased to announce that it will hold an inaugural celebration to honor its seventh president, Jack P. Calareso, Ph.D., and his wife, Mrs. Rose Calareso, at its 32nd Annual Scholarship Gala on Friday, November 7 at the Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury, New York. The evening will begin at 7 p.m. with cocktails followed by dinner and dancing at 8 p.m. Proceeds from this black tie affair will be used to establish The Rose and Jack Calareso Community Service Scholarship.

“We are fortunate, indeed, to have an educator of Jack Calareso’s caliber and experience to lead St. Joseph’s College into its second century,” said W. Christian Drewes, Esq., chair of SJC’s Board of Trustees. “Jack and his wife, Rose, exemplify the values and traditions that have made our College an extraordinary institution. On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I am delighted to welcome Jack and Rose Calareso to the St. Joseph’s community, and we look forward to a strong and successful partnership.”

Dr. Calareso began his tenure as SJC’s seventh president on July 1, 2014. He brings to this position a wealth of expertise in higher education—particularly Catholic higher education—and a national reputation for his knowledge in liberal arts education, teaching and administration. Formerly the president of Anna Maria College in Paxton, Massachusetts, Dr. Calareso is a renowned speaker at international, national, regional and local conferences and workshops. He has also authored numerous books and articles, and has a strong fundraising background in leading successful major fundraising campaigns.

Dr. Calareso received a Ph.D. from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He earned a master’s degree from St. Bernard’s School of Theology in Rochester, New York and an undergraduate degree from Boston College in Massachusetts. A native of Boston, he and his wife, Rose, currently reside in Brooklyn, New York.

A year-long celebration of the entire College community, the inauguration of President Jack P. Calareso, Ph.D. is an opportunity to celebrate and honor those who have paved the way and created a college committed to academic excellence and the common good, while advancing its future and celebrating a new chapter in the life of SJC. Since 1916, SJC has been guided by five core pillars: intellectual and spiritual values, social responsibility, integrity and service. Throughout the inaugural year, these ideals will come alive through a series of events and projects. Each event will celebrate one of these five values, and the generations of SJC alumni and friends who live out these values every day.
