PATCHOGUE and BROOKLYN, N.Y. JULY 1, 2013 St. Josephs College (SJC) is pleased to announce the introduction of a Bachelor of Science in Human Services degree to its undergraduate programs on both its Brooklyn and Long Island campuses for the 2013 fall semester. Previously, this degree was listed as the Bachelor of Science in Community Health and Human Services, but has since been augmented to respond to the educational and experiential needs of field practitioners.
"This new degree definition, Human Services, will help many more adult students pursue their careers in the public and private sectors of Long Island, said Carolyn Gallogly, associate professor and department chairperson for the B.S. in Human Services.
The B.S. in Human Services degree was designed to provide students with knowledge and experience in such disciplines as advocacy, assessment, interviewing, group facilitation, counseling skills, case management, program development and program evaluation.
For completion, the program will require a minimum of 128 credits with several required courses including: Principles of Counseling, Introduction to Course Management, Group Dynamics and Writing for Effective Communication. There is also a field experience requirement that can be achieved in a variety of ways based on the students interest and capability.
For more information about the human services program at SJC, attend an information session on August 7-8, or contact the Offices of Admissions in Brooklyn at 718.940.5800 or Long Island at 631.687.4501 or visit www.sjny.edu/admissions.
