SJC Brooklyn Council for the Arts Presents Transformations

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – October 30, 2015 – SJC Brooklyn Council for the Arts is pleased to announce that it will feature the works of nine Brooklyn artists in an exhibit entitled, “Transformations,” from October 26 to December 1. The exhibit will be showcased in the Alumni Room Gallery of Tuohy Hall.

In addition, SJC Brooklyn will host an opening reception on Monday, November 9 at 5:30 p.m., an artist’s talk on Thursday, November 12 at 1 p.m. and a gallery talk on Saturday, November 21 at 1 p.m. These events will also take place in the Alumni Room Gallery of Tuohy Hall.

Featuring the works of Pamella Allen, Che Baraka, Rachel Goldsmith, Abby Goldstein, Takuji Hamanaka, Parris Jaru, Eric Kaczmarczyk, Melaine Kozol and Valerie Williams, the art in Transformations was chosen for its manipulation with nature and their translations of the natural world, whether intended or not. Nature is not hidden in any of the works in Transformations - each image is an adaptation of the earth’s natural environment. The exhibition includes works on canvas and paper, wood block, Mylar prints and photography as each artist approaches the subject with their unique processes and materials.

These events are free and open to the public. Gallery hours are Wednesdays from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturdays from 1 to 3 p.m. For more information, contact Ramona Candy at 718.940.5351 or [email protected]. 

The Council for the Arts is a coalition of students, faculty members and staff who serve as a focal point for SJC Brooklyn’s educational and community outreach programming in the arts. By expanding and integrating campus arts activities, the Council seeks to enhance the public image of the College as a cultural center in Brooklyn and aims to make arts and cultural events more accessible to its students and area neighbors.
