SJC Brooklyn Welcomes Sister Carol Zinn

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – October 1, 2015 – SJC Brooklyn is pleased to announce that Sister Carol Zinn, SSJ, will present the College’s annual Founders Day lecture on Wednesday, October 14 at 1 p.m. Her talk, “Answering the Call for Planetary Healing”, will take place in the Tuohy Hall Auditorium.

"As we approach our centennial year, I cannot think of a more appropriate speaker than Sister Carol Zinn," said Dr. Jill Rehmann, vice president of academic affairs, SJC Brooklyn. "With a deep and varied background in grassroots activism, she embodies the spirit of inquiry and social engagement that the College was founded on."

Sister Carol Zinn, SSJ, Ph.D., is a member of the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Philadelphia, serves on the congregation’s leadership team and is currently the president of the Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR). S. Carol has had a long career in public service, working in grassroots-based international movements as a consultant and facilitator. With organizations like the United Religious Initiative and the Earth Charter, she addressed human rights, the eradication of poverty, environmental preservation, peace and disarmament. She served as the representative for the Congregations Saint Joseph, a non-governmental organization (NGO), in general consultative status with the economic and social council of the United Nations. 

Every year, SJC Brooklyn celebrates the pioneering spirit of its inaugural class by holding the Founders Day lecture. This lecture, which has featured some of the most dynamic and respected figures in a wide range of disciplines, serves as a living testament to the probing intellect and dedication to learning  shared by the enterprising young women who opened the College nearly a century ago.
