December 10, 2014

BROOKLYN AND PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – December 10, 2014 – St. Joseph’s College (SJC) was recently named to Military Advanced Education’s (MAE) 2015 Guide to Colleges and Universities. The annual guide evaluates institutions on their best practices in military and veteran education and highlights schools that go out of their way to give back to servicemembers.

For the eighth year, more than 600 higher education institutions were evaluated based on military culture, financial aid for veterans, flexibility, on-campus support, online support services and criteria recommended by the VA and military services. The Guide provides foundational information a prospective student would use in framing his or her educational needs.

“We are honored to be recognized by Military Advanced Education as one of the top schools for veterans and servicemembers,” said Shannon O’Neill, assistant dean of military and veteran services at SJC. “We are so proud of our military-connected students at SJC and the wonderful impact they have had on the entire college community.”

With more than 230 military-connected students between the two campuses, SJC offers a number of degree programs with flexible course schedules, including offerings at Fort Hamilton in Brooklyn, Fort Wadsworth in Staten Island, the Jones Beach Coast Guard Station in Freeport and the Shinnecock Coast Guard Station in Hampton Bays, New York. On the Long Island Campus, the SJC Student Veterans of America Club addresses the interests and experiences of veterans and the issues they encounter after their military service. SJC is a proud participant in the Post-9/11 GI Bill Yellow Ribbon Program, a member of the Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges (SOC) and a core member of the SOCAD-4 management network.
