BROOKLYN, N.Y August 26, 2009 St. Josephs College was recently notified that it will receive a $25,000 legislative grant from the New York State Conference of Black Senators to equip several classrooms on the Brooklyn campus with wireless interactive smartboards. This technology will be instrumental in training St. Josephs Child Study majors on how to best utilize the equipment that they will be using in the classroom.
In keeping with the Colleges mission to provide its students with the highest quality liberal arts education at a reasonable price, St. Josephs renovates and upgrades its learning facilities on a regular basis. Throughout New York City, schools are installing interactive smartboards that enable teachers to project images onto a whiteboard and provide for interactive teaching in which students can participate in and benefit from immediate correction and feedback. Since many of St. Josephs students are Child Study majors and will teach within the 5 boroughs, having access to this technology will play a valuable role in training the future teachers of New York City.
The mission of the New York State Conference of Black Senators is to promote, advocate and initiate social, economic, political and legislative matters which will positively influence the life and conditions of African Americans throughout the State of New York. They seek to assure maximum exchange of issues, ideals and information between conference members and conditions in order to establish well formulated positions on social, economic, political and legislative matters. In particular, we would like to thank State Senator Velmanette Montgomery for her efforts in securing this grant and for her long-standing support of the College.
