BROOKLYN, N.Y. June 20, 2014 St. Josephs College (SJC) and Boys Hope Girls Hope are pleased to announce the creation of the Boys Hope Girls Hope Summer Academy, a five-week program designed to provide disadvantaged youth who demonstrate academic potential with the support they need to ensure success in the Boys Hope Girls Hope boarding program and in high school.
"The College is delighted to partner with Boys Hope Girls Hope on this important endeavor, said SJC President S. Elizabeth A. Hill. "Boys Hope Girls Hope is providing these students with the foundation they need to thrive following high school, and we are only too happy to offer a stimulating and hopefully inspiring environment for them as they develop vital skills for college success.
This program will be hosted at SJCs Brooklyn Campus from July 7 to August 9, and will serve approximately 35-40 high school freshmen and sophomores who are members of Boys Hope Girls Hope. Participating students will obtain both the social and academic foundations they need for college success. Along with the necessary prep work in math, reading and writing, students will be exposed to the rigor of a competitive environment present in college to help better prepare them for post-secondary success.
"Kudos to St. Josephs College for so generously hosting our inaugural Boys Hope Girls Hope prep school for prep school, said S. Mary Lanning, vice chair of the Boys Hope Girls Hope of New York. "The impact of our being able to welcome our incoming ninth graders to our Summer Enrichment Program on a college campus is calculable. For many of our children and their families, summer 2014 at St. Josephs College will be the first time they can visualize how different life can be when opportunities and choices align.
